The challenge of starting to exercise<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Taking the step to start exercising is huge, especially if you suffer from psychological complaints. The idea of a busy gym full of sweaty people can be daunting if you're feeling good, let alone if you're facing a mental challenge. It is therefore quite logical that people who feel mentally unhealthy or have had depression exercise significantly less often than people who feel psychologically healthy (34-42 percent versus 53-56 percent<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The power of movement on our psyche<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A shame, because it has been proven that regular exercise not only improves our physical health but also contributes significantly to our mental well-being. Exercise reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety by releasing endorphins, which give us a natural feeling of happiness. It can be an effective treatment for people with mild to moderate psychological complaints, comparable to psychotherapy or medication, according to research by the Knowledge Bank for Sport and Exercise. It ensures structural improvements in how we feel and how we deal with stress.
